While the fall here was spectacular, the winter has been disappointing if one would like some snow with their winter. Normally by this time we would have received 57 inches but have only gotten 25. We have basically not had snow cover for more than three days. Our temperatures are above average. It hardly seems like winter. I know many people think this is a good thing but they don't have cross country skis and snowshoes hanging the garage.

For those who do not like Rochester weather, I point out that the only thing worse than a Rochester winter might be a Rochester spring: gray, damp, windy, and long. At this rate, our "spring" could last four months! A good thing in most parts of the country but, I assure you, not here.

December and January have been busy months filled with trips to Kansas City and Appleton as well as Christmas celebrations here and in Buffalo. My 71st birthday passed uneventfully with warms wishes and plenty of books to read and clothes to wear. I have begun saving up for a new Canon SLR. I am currently at least two generations behind and can see the difference the latest technology would make in my images.

I have reconnected with friends from high school and college, Stephen Teichgraeber and Ralph Richardson, have been enjoying a vigorous email conversation with them and Pat Miller with whom I have been in contact since we graduated. Ralph and I were classmates for 16 years from kindergarten at St. James through graduation from Rockhurst University.
